Dr. Mohamed Rela is one of the topmost liver transplant surgeons in India. He is presently working as the head and chief surgeon, HPB and Liver transplant surgery in the Global Hospital Groups, Chennai. His name has also been listed in the Guinness Book of World Record for performing a successful liver transplant on the youngest child ever. With more than 35 years of experience, his expertise has been accredited in Auxiliary Liver Transplantation in the world. Dr. Mohamed Rela has performed over 4000 successful liver transplants with a count of 250 transplants every year.
He has done his MBBS from Stanley Medical College and Hospital, Chennai in the year 1982, and after that, he pursued his MS in Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery from Madras University, Chennai in the year 1987. He has also worked as a professor of liver surgery and transplantation for King's College Hospital London. Dr. Mohamed is the first surgeon who has done split liver transplantation and created a bench in organ sharing in India.
